The Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (EPCMD) has been formed under the aegis of Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) in collaboration with Department of Commerce (DoC), Government of India.

India’s Medical Devices Sector: A Global Sunrise Sector

The Indian medical device sector is experiencing a profound transformation, propelled by an expanding healthcare ecosystem and a population exceeding a billion. With a robust healthcare infrastructure, progressive government policies, and significant investments in research and development, India is poised to become a dominant force in the global medical device industry.

Currently valued at approximately USD 16 billion, the Indian medical device market is growing at a CAGR of 15%. With a strong presence of both multinational corporations and a thriving base of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), this high-potential sector is expected to reach USD 30 billion by 2030 and over USD 50 billion by 2050. The key drivers of this growth include an aging population, the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, enhanced healthcare spending, and continuous technological advancements.

Government Initiatives Fuelling Expansion

Strategic government initiatives, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Medical Devices and the establishment of three Medical Device Parks, are strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, increased healthcare infrastructure investment and efforts to improve healthcare accessibility in rural areas are expected to further accelerate demand for medical devices.

EPCMD: Empowering the Medical Device Industry

The newly formed EPCMD is dedicated to advancing the interests of India’s medical device sector through the following key initiatives:

  • Advocating industry concerns with the Government of India and international agencies to foster business-friendly policies.
  • Providing policy recommendations to facilitate medical device exports.
  • Issuing Certificates of Origin and Registration cum Membership Certificates (RCMC) through an efficient online process.
  • Organizing seminars and interactive sessions to build export-related capacity among industry stakeholders.
  • Assisting members in securing Market Access Incentives (MAI) refunds from the Government of India.
  • Collaborating with Indian diplomatic missions to organize business meetings and networking events in India and abroad.
  • Leading and participating in international exhibitions and trade delegations to enhance global outreach.

EPCMD will host the 2nd India MedTech Expo in September 2025 under the aegis of Bharat Health from 4th to 6th September - 2025. This Expo will feature an Exhibition, Conference, Regional Forums, and B2B Meetings, with a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet (RBSM) as a key highlight.
