Indian diversity has been a fertile ground for Innovations with a long tradition of innovation- Invention of Zero and Decimal system, Home to one of the three ancient civilisations (Indus Valley Civilisation), Place of origin of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism, Pioneering Universities like Nalanda and Takshshila, Architectural and Engineering Marvels such the Iron Pillar in Delhi, rock cut Temples, Taj Mahal, Qutab Minar, works such as Arthshastra, Rigveda, Upanishads, Traditional Knowledge Systems in Medicine, Mathematics, Astronomy, Dance, Music, etc.  After independence in 1947, Indian innovations have facilitated Agriculture Revolution, Milk Revolution, Telecom growth, ICT Export, Space exploration, Atomic Energy, Defense, Pharma, Biotech, etc. Indian Government has invested a great deal in building institutions & Infrastructures to facilitate innovations. Simultaneously appropriate policies & programmes have been introduced to help foster innovations. India has a significant pool of qualified people, both within country as well as the diaspora, presently engaged in innovative activities. This talent pool has to be leveraged to drive the innovation agenda. There is also a need to capture the multiple innovations happening in various domains such as government, R&D labs and universities to give an impetus to the innovation process in the country.

Start up India is a campaign is based on an action plan aimed at promoting bank financing for start-up ventures to boost entrepreneurship and encourage start ups with jobs creation. The campaign was first announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 15 August 2015 address from the Red Fort. For more information click here

Atal Innovation Mission including Self-Employment and Talent Utilization (SETU) is Government of India’s endeavour to promote a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
